Azerbaijan invested $40.4 million in Georgia during the first three quarters of 2011, the National Statistical Service of Georgia told Trend on Monday.
It is noted that Azerbaijan's investments amounted to $11.7 million in the first quarter, $13.2 million in the second and $15.5 million in the third quarter.
There is a continual increase of direct investment into the Georgian economy by Azerbaijan. It makes up six per cent of total foreign direct investment.
It should be noted that foreign direct investment amounted to $266.0 million in Georgia in the third quarter of 2011, which is 66 per cent more compared to the same period in 2010.
As a result, foreign direct investment amounted to $643.0 million over the first three quarters of 2011. The same investment in Georgia amounted to $6.4 million over the same period in 2010.
Most funds to Georgia came from the Netherlands, $134.7 million, Denmark $99.8 million, Cyprus $80.8 million and Turkey $67.9 million.
The biggest investments are in the energy sector 32 per cent, the financial sector 19 percent, industry 11 percent, real estate eight per cent, transport and communications six per cent.
