Launching the Arvand Petrochemical Complex has made Iran self-sufficient in producing two polyvinyl chloride (PVC) grades and caustic soda as three strategic products of its petrochemical industry, the Mehr news agency reported.

Iran has not only stopped importing these products, but also has exported a number of consignments to Asian and African states.

Some $1.6 billion has been invested in establishing the complex which is the largest producer of PVC products in the world with an annual output of 2.8 million tons. It produces over 240,000 tons of PVC, some 25-30 per cent of the world's total production.

The complex is also projected to annually produce 660,000 tons of caustic soda, 340,000 tons of vinyl chloride, and 890,000 tons of ethylene dichloride.
