Annual inflation hits 2 percent in Georgia in Dec.

The inflation rate was 2.0 percent in Georgia in December 2011 compared to December 2010. The Georgian Statistics Agency told Trend that the change in prices in the below-mentioned groups affected the formation of this index during the 12-month period:

The inflation rate was 2.0 percent in Georgia in December 2011 compared to December 2010. The Georgian Statistics Agency told Trend that the change in prices in the below-mentioned groups affected the formation of this index during the 12-month period:

Transport: prices increased by 14.6 percent. Accordingly, the share of the group in the annual inflation was 1.4 percentage points. In this group, a significant increase in prices was registered for civil automobile transport - 22.4 percent; a subgroup of transport services - 22.12 percent; and, a subgroup of fuel and engine oil - 10.0 percent;

Food and soft drinks: the prices increased by 0.9 percent during the reporting period and the share of the group in the annual inflation amounted to 0.4 percentage points;
The prices on meat and meat products increased markedly by 21.9 percent; Milk, cheese and eggs - 6.5 percent; and, fish - 5.4 percent.

The prices on fruit and grapes decreased by 28.6 percent, but vegetables and potatoes decreased by 11.8 percent.
