Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Feb.4 /Trend, H. Hasanov /

The Railway Transport Ministry of Turkmenistan plans to conclude a contract with the Jordanian Consolidated Consultants Engineering and Environment company, an official Turkmen source said.

The question is about providing consulting services in conducting construction work on Bereket-Serhetyaka section of the Gyzylgaya-Bereket-Etrek railway and reconstruction of the air communication system of Ashgabat- Bereket-Turkmenbashi railway.

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov signed the corresponding decree.
"An important role is attached to the country's transport sector in implementation of major programs of state development," President Berdimuhammadov said at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.

He said the main task is this sector is further increasing volume of freight and passenger traffic, as well as improving the quality of public services.

In October it was reported that Consolidated Consultants Engineering and Environment will provide consulting services during construction of Bereket main station's locomotive depot.

The work is being carried out here under the intergovernmental agreement signed between Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran in 2007. The projected transport volume through the North-South route for the first years of operation will be 5.5 million tons.
The new corridor is expected to operate at maximum efficiency when construction of the southern branch from the Turkmen city Bereket to Turkmen-Iranian border is completed. Opening on the Turkmen-Kazakh border will be held in the near future.

Implementation of large-scale North-South project will open access to the Central Asia and Persian Gulf for the European and Asian countries through the shortest and economically advantageous route. On the other hand, a similar opportunity will appear for transit of goods from South and Southeast Asian countries, from the coasts of the Indian Ocean to the countries of Northern and Eastern Europe - through Iran, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Russia.
