The move taken by the Turkmen textile industry to introduce innovations and renew the range will push the volume of exports up and with it the profitability of this industrial sector, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said to local media at a governmental meeting today.
'The President stressed the key role of the flexible marketing policy, using the best foreign experience in this field and effective labour in the companies', the article of the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper said.
The Turkmen Ministry of Textile Industry said that goods worth 82.4 million manat were produced in January 2012. This is equal to last year's index. However, the highest growth was in silk fabric production, 172.6 per cent in the total production.
The profit for last month totalled seven million manat. The growth rate of carpet production at the State Joint Stock Corporation, Turkmenhaly (Turkmen carpet) factory was 108.8 per cent.
According to the development programme underway until 2020, it is planned to invest about $2 billion in the Turkmen textile industry. This will create around 20,000 new jobs.
Turkmenistan is among the top 10 raw cotton producers. Hundreds of millions of U.S. dollars have been invested in a comprehensive modernisation of the infrastructure during the years of independence. Specialised service centres of such companies as Schlafhorst, Truetzschler and Uster and other organisations are being opened in Ashgabat to provide the textile enterprises with spare parts.
The industry in the country is developing on the basis of the growth of domestic processing of raw cotton. Turkmenistan prepared more than 1.50 million tons in 2011. The country has similar plans for this year. The country traditionally exports raw cotton to China, Russia, Great Britain, South Korea, Turkey, Iran, Indonesia, Singapore, Ukraine and the Baltic countries.
