Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan reach agreement on investment fund

Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have agreed to speed up the establishment of an investment fund to finance joint projects, the Kyrgyz government said on Wednesday.

During a two-day visit to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Prime Minister Omurbek Babanov held talks on this matter with the head of the JSC National Welfare Fund of Kazakhstan Samruk-Kazyna, Umirzak Shukeyev.

Both sides discussed the implementation of joint Kyrgyz-Kazakh projects. Mr Shukeyev thanked Mr Babanov for his personal involvement. In turn Mr Babanov expressed confidence in boosting mutually beneficial cooperation between the Kyrgyz government and Samruk-Kazyna Fund structures.

He also expressed interest in becoming a third partner together with Russia in the construction of the Kambar-Ata HPP-1, as well as take part in the construction of a thermal condensation power plant at the Kara-Keche coal deposit.

In addition, the Kazakh side expressed its willingness to participate in the implementation of a project for the construction of interstate 500- kW high-voltage lines Kemin-Almaty which connects to the Datka-Kemin power line.

Following the meeting priority areas such as energy, water and gas were discussed.
