While forming a new government, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov retained Palvan Taganov in the post as chairman of the country's Chamber of Commerce, an official Turkmen source said.
After discussing the Chamber's activities at the last governmental meeting, the president emphasised that it has important tasks that are not just limited to notifying customers about locally produced goods and their advertising.
"The Chamber of Commerce and Industry must work with foreign partners to organise various exhibitions and promote the country's great achievements in all sectors in the world, given the fact that Turkmenistan is one of the fastest growing in the world," he said.
He said the country will be interested in intensifying the Chamber's activity to promote local products in world markets. He also stressed the need to improve the work of the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange.
The Turkmen Chamber of Commerce and Industry was established in 1993 to promote economic development and its integration into the world economic system. Its agenda is to form a modern industrial, financial and trade infrastructure, to create favourable conditions for entrepreneurship and to assist in establishing trade and economic as well as scientific and technical ties with foreign partners.
