President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited a large horse-breeding complex near Ashgabat, where he met with the director of the French Pegasus Farms Ltd company Hervé Barjot, a statement of the Turkmen government said on Wednesday.

'Barjot offered Turkmen colleagues comprehensive assistance and support from Pegasus Farms Ltd, which has successfully engaged in the management of racehorses that are in training in Ireland, Britain, France and America', a statement said.

Pegasus Farms Ltd is recognised as one of the leading managerial European companies in the racing industry which, since 2004, each year gets into the top five owners of horses for flat and hurdle racing.

The French expert believes "Turkmenistan is steadily asserting itself as an emerging international horse-breeding centre and confirms the country's leading position in this field".

The two sides expressed mutual interest in establishing business contacts that will further augment the glory of the legendary breed the Akhal-Teke horses.

The Turkmen leader said during the meeting that there was extensive work on the revival, popularising and promoting to the world one of the most ancient traditions of the national breeding of Akhal-Teke.

Barjot presented an old English engraving and a book about horses which was published in France as a gift to the president of Turkmenistan.

"In France, as in many countries around the world, people know and appreciate the Akhal-Teke horses which are the perfect embodiment of beauty and nobility," said Hervé Barjot, confessing that he has always dreamed of visiting the home of the famous argamaks the article says.
