Number of social insurance payers in Azerbaijan increases by 12,036

As many as 1,978,890 people have individual social insurance accounts in Azerbaijan as of April 1, 2012, a report by the State Social Protection Fund (SSPF) announced on Monday.

During the first quarter of 2012 the number of those for whom individual accounts were opened, amounted to 12,036. Of the total number of insured for whom individual accounts of social insurance were opened, 56.1 per cent were men and 43.9 per cent women.

According to the State Social Protection Fund, a large number of people with individual accounts are working citizens aged 40-50 years. The total number of citizens of this category is 24.7 per cent of all social insurance payers.

Individual accounts were also opened for 465,039 taxpayers under the age of 30 years (23.5 per cent), 443, 271 - 30-40 years (22.4 per cent), 401,714 - 50-60 years (20.3 per cent) and 180,079 over the age of 60 years (9.1 per cent).

From January 1, 2006, Azerbaijan, in accordance with the law 'On labour pension', switched to using individual accounting for social insurance. On this basis, each taxpayer of contributions for compulsory social insurance has individual accounts where contributions for compulsory social insurance paid can accumulate.

In accordance with the State Programme of the development of the pension, insurance system in Azerbaijan for 2009-2015, the state social insurance system extends the use of individual records.
