Turkmenistan seeks to boost engineering cooperation with Iran

Turkmen Deputy Energy and Industry Minister Jepbarberdi Atayev visited Iran's northern Golestan Province on Friday and expressed hope that the two sides would expand cooperation in the field of engineering.

The Turkmen official, who headed a delegation, paid a visit to a power plant and said that the two neighboring countries should pave the way for boosting relations in different economic, political and cultural fields, IRNA news agency reported.

The trade turnover between Iran and Turkmenistan reached $5 billion in the past calendar year (ended on March 19), an official at the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran said, Press TV reported.

"Tehran and Ashgabat have great potential to boost their bilateral trade value up to $10 billion," Abdolhamid Asadian said.

The two countries' annual trade value currently hits $4.2 billion.

The head of the Turkmen Chamber of Commerce and Industry Palvan Taganov said that 146 Iranian companies are currently implementing several industrial and construction projects in Turkmenistan.
