Azerbaijan, Baku, April 16 / Trend, A.Akhundov /

The dynamic growth rate of Azerbaijan and Turkey's economies provides ample opportunities for a further increase in trade turnover between the two countries.

Undersecretary of Customs at the Turkish Customs and Trade Ministry Ziya Altunyaldiz announced this at a meeting with Azerbaijani State Customs Committee Chairman Aydin Aliyev in Baku on Saturday.

'A significant increase in trade turnover is good and even today there are ample opportunities for further growth', the report says.

According to the SCC in the first quarter, the volume of trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Turkey exceeded $478.5 million. It increased by more than 67 per cent compared to the figure of the same period last year.

Turkey is one of the largest foreign trade partners of Azerbaijan. In January-March, Azerbaijan imported most products from Turkeyworth $310.02 million (15.09 per cent of the country's total imports), and exported products to the sum of $168.53 million (2.89 per cent of exports).

According to Aliyev, the mutual exchange of experience of the two customs agencies made a major contribution to the development of common cause.
At the meeting Aliyev spoke about the positive results on applying the Turkish experience by Azerbaijan in the fight against smuggling and especially drugs.

The Turkish delegation visited Azerbaijan to participate in the conference of heads of customs services of the World Customs Organisation Europe Region (WCO) in Baku.
