Kazakhstan increased uranium production by 5 percent in January-March 2012 compared to the same period of 2010. The company's uranium production reached 4,666 tons in the reporting period, the Kazakh National Atomic Company Kazatomprom reported.


Meanwhile, uranium production of Kazatomprom including shares in subsidiaries and affiliates amounted to 2,656 tons in the first three months of 2012 (4 percent increase compared to the first quarter of 2012).

According to the report, Kazatomprom has fulfilled all contractual obligations in the first quarter of 2012. Moreover, the company's uranium production target was completed.

Thecompany's consolidated income hit 51 billion tenge ($334.69 million) in the reporting period.

Kazatomprom is Kazakh national operator for import and export of uranium, rare metals, nuclear fuel for power plants, special equipment and dual-purpose materials. A total of 100 percent of the company's stock is held by the government under the Kazakh Sovereign Welth Fund Samruk-Kazyna.

Kazatomprom is the world's leading uranium producer.

Kazakhstan produced 19,450 tons of uranium or 35 percent of world production in 2011.
