From October 1 Azerbaijan will introduce a ban on imports of VAZ 2114 and VAZ 2115 passenger cars because they do not have an anti-lock braking system (ABS) and airbags, chairman of the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee Aydin Aliyev told reporters on Wednesday.
In accordance with the requirements of national standard AZS 635-2012 'The scheme of certification of wheeled vehicles, their equipment and parts', from May 1 transport vehicles (except for the four-wheel drive) imported into Azerbaijan or manufactured home must have an ABS system and at least an airbag.
"This process will proceed in stages. Azerbaijan will stop importing VAZ 2107 cars from May 1 and VAZ 2114 and VAZ 2115 from October 1. Imports will only be possible if the cars of these brands are modified and meet our standards," Aliyev said. He added the Russian side has already been informed about the new rules.
Earlier Azerbaijan introduced a ban on the import of cars that do not meet Euro 2 emissions standards.
