Kyrgyzstan seeks to attract Japanese investments

Kyrgyzstan is interested in Japanese business in the country, Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambaev said at a meeting with the Japanese economic delegation, the presidential press service said today.

"We look forward to the real presence of Japanese businesses in Kyrgyzstan," the president said.

He welcomed major Japanese companies' interest in Kyrgyzstan and investments in its economy.

"Opening a Toyota Motor representative office in Bishkek is a kind of example for many Japanese companies," Atambayev said.

The Japanese delegation includes Deputy Director General for International Regional Policy of the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry Kenji Goto, president of the Japanese organization for the development of new energy and industrial technology "NEDO" Kazuo Furukawa, executive vice president of the Japanese National Corporation of Oil, Gas and Metal "JOGMEC" Hirobumi Kawano, and head of Department for Mineral and Natural Resources Yuko Yasunaga.

President Atambayev stressed importance and timeliness of the visit to Kyrgyzstan, designed to stimulate trade-economic and investment ties and contribute to further strengthening of inter-state relations.

In particular, Japan hopes to promote cooperation in the form of specific projects.

President Atambayev expressed confidence that signing the agreements at this stage will promote active cooperation between the countries.

During the visit, the Japanese delegation will sign a memorandum on cooperation in energy saving between the Kyrgyz Ministry of Energy and the Japanese Organization "NEDO", the memorandum on cooperation in the mining industry between the Institute of Geology of the Kyrgyz National Academy of Sciences and the Japanese corporation "JOGMEC".

Deputy Director General for International Regional Policy of the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry Kenji Goto pledged to strengthen the economic relations. He stressed that the cooperation in energy and natural resources is of strategic importance for both countries.
