Approximately 50,000 Azerbaijani tourists visited Dubai in 2011, Azerbaijani Culture and Tourism Ministry official Rashid Nuri said in an interview with the Mubashir newspaper today.
He added that Baku is ready to receive about 30,000 tourists from Persian Gulf countries each year. Tourists from the Persian Gulf countries spent an average of $ 650 in Azerbaijan in 2011. In general, the period of their stay in Azerbaijan amounted to 3-5 days.
"Tourism in Azerbaijan is the second profitable sector after oil and gas industry," he said. "Azerbaijan has great potential to attract foreign investments in tourism."
