Azerbaijan to become ‘window’ of Dubai Chamber of Commerce to region

Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry intends to open a representative office in Azerbaijan, so that economic relations between the two countries will be more active, Director General of the Chamber Hamad Buamim said in an interview with Trend.

"We decided to start our activities in the region of Central Asia and Caucasus from Azerbaijan. Through Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce will explore the market of Kazakhstan, Georgia and other countries of the region, so we can say that Azerbaijan will become the window of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry to the region," Buamim said.

He said the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry is a public institution, aimed at coordinating and developing entrepreneurship, and is the largest Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the Arab world.

" Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry is represented by 32,000 companies. This chamber operates in all spheres of economy and trade. Major companies represented by the Chamber, are companies operating in the area of trade and services," Buamim said.

He also noted that the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry has selected a new market of activity, and this the Caucasus region and African countries. The Chamber is engaged in selection of strategic areas for UAE companies and businessmen. Also, the Chamber will deal with the choice of important spheres of activity in the UAE for Azerbaijani companies.

"Some 133 companies from the Arab Gulf countries are represented in the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Office of the Dubai Chamber may participate in attracting investment from the Gulf to the Azerbaijani market," Buamim said.

He also noted that the opening of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry is planned before the end of 2012.

The delegation headed by Deputy Minister of Economy of UAE Mohammed bin Abdul Aziz Al-Shehhi is on an official visit to Baku.

It is expected that the delegation will hold meetings with representatives of the Azerbaijani Ministries of Culture, Foreign Affairs, Justice, Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO). On Thursday, the delegation held a meeting at the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Economic Development of Azerbaijan told Trend earlier.

The delegation will depart from Baku on May 26.
