The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Turkey increased by 8.06 percent in May 2012 compared to the same month in 2011, the Turkish Statistical Institute's report on its website says on Tuesday.
Inflation hit 0.53 percent in May compared to the previous month.
The highest increase in consumer prices - 8.6 percent - was observed in garment sector in May.
A CPI increase was observed in the entertainment and culture sector at 0.33 percent, in housing at 0.04 percent, in the restaurant and hotel business at 1.1 percent, and in other service sectors at 0.23 percent, in the field of food and nonalcoholic beverages - 2.4 percent.
Compared to the same month of 2011, the CPI increased by 18.7 percent in Mayin the alcoholic beverage and tobacco goods sector, by 15.15 percent - in other service sectors, 12.54 percent - in transport sector, 9.53 percent in food and soft drinks sector, 8.58 percent - sale of furniture and domestic appliances.
