The world's largest producer of food and drinks, the Nestle company, has opened a representative office in Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Taxes said on Friday.

According to the information, a company with authorised capital of $200,000 was registered in tax authorities on May 16.

Legal representative of the Nestle Azerbaijan company is an individual Jeyhun Bahtiyarly.

The history of Nestle goes back to 1866. That year, Henry Nestle, determined to overcome child mortality, invented Farine Lactee - the world's first milk formula for infants - and started its production.

Since then, the Nestle product range is constantly expanding, and currently exceeds 8,000 brands of food that consumers are aware on all the five continents.

Among food manufacturers Nestle is notable for the largest volumes of investment in the world in research and technical development. In 2009, two billion Swiss francs were spent for these goals.

The main activity of Nestle is associated with the food production. In addition, Nestle owns shares of perfume and cosmetic companies and pharmaceutical industries.

Today, Nestle is the largest food producer in the world. Nestle group employs over 280,000 people, it owns 456 factories and industrial plants in 84 countries. In 2009 total sales of the Nestle corporation reached 108 billion Swiss francs. Net profite in 2009 was 15.7 billion Swiss francs.
