The eighth unit of the TPP-1 in Kazakhstan will launch in the fourth quarter and increase electricity production by 3.1 billion kWh (kilowatt / hour) per year, Kazakhmys General Director Nikolay Korobovsky said in an interview with state media.

He said the total project cost is 23.4 billion tenge ($1 - 149, 7 tenge).

Korobovsky said a test run of the unit № 8 was implemented on July 3. Currently the equipment, according to technical regulations, stopped for additional commissioning.

"We plan to increase electricity production to 13.7 billion kW / h by the end of the year " Korobovsky said.

Bulat Nurzhanov Ekibastuz TPP-1 is the largest power plant in Kazakhstan. Some 13.402 billion kilowatt / hours of electricity was produced here in 2011, which is 12.6 percent more than in 2010.

"This figure increased by more than two billion kW / h or more than 20 percent in 2011 compared to 2008. It is primarily due to the fact that the proceeds from the sale of electricity are spent on equipment upgrades," Korobovsky said.

The installed capacity of Ekibastuz TPP-1 is 4,000 megawatts.
