Iran to merge communications, roads and urban development ministries

The Iranian administration has decided to merge the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology with the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, the Mehr news agency reported.

The name of the new ministry has been suggested as the Ministry of Infrastructure.
The new ministry would have the administrative power of the Roads and Urban Development and Communication and Information Technology ministries.

Earlier, the Iranian government decided to merge the Oil Ministry with the Energy Ministry, while the Labour Ministry is combined with the Welfare and Social Security Ministry.

According to the Fifth Five-Year Development Plan (2010-2015), the Iranian government is obliged to reduce its ministries from 21 to 17 to improve the efficiency of the state's administration.
