Tehran to host first ECO ministerial meeting on ICT, telecommunications

In line with the necessity of expansion of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and collaboration amongst ECO member countries, the first ministerial meeting on ICT and telecommunications will be held in Tehran on November 11-13, 2012, Fars reported.

During the event, an exhibition on the potential and capability of ECO member countries on ICT will be held, the Fars News agency reported.

Recently, Fars reported that the next meeting of the representatives of the supreme financial control bodies of the Organisation of Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) member states will be held in Tehran as well, on Nov. 5-11, with the participation of representatives of the supreme bodies of the financial control sector of the ECO's 10 member states.

The Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) is an intergovernmental organisation involving seven Asian and three Eurasian nations and is part of the south-central Asian Union.

It provides a platform to discuss ways to improve development and promote trade and investment opportunities.

The ECO is an ad hoc organisation under the United Nations Charter. The common objective is to establish a single market for goods and services, much like the European Union.

ECO's secretariat and cultural department are located in Tehran, with its economic bureau in Turkey and scientific bureau situated in Pakistan. The organisation was founded by Turkey, Iran and Pakistan.
