Uzbekistan, UK to discuss prospects of trade and economic cooperation

Entrepreneurs of Uzbekistan and the United Kingdom will discuss the current state and prospects of trade and economic cooperation in the course of the next session of the Uzbek-British Board of Trade and Industry (UBBTI), the government told Trend on Tuesday.

A business forum scheduled for October 25 in Tashkent.

According to the British Embassy in the council meeting will be attended by more than 20 British companies. British business delegation led by a British MP and co-chair of UBBTI Peter Lilley.

UBBTI is the main forum for deepening the development of relations in the sphere of trade and investments between Uzbekistan and the United Kingdom. A key goal of its establishment was to assist in the promotion of business relations between the two countries taking them to a new level, as well as raising awareness of business opportunities in both countries.

The council supports British companies operating in Uzbekistan, as well as those that are just considering activities in Uzbekistan. It operates under the auspices of the Department of Trade and Investment (UKTI), the UK government agency set up to promote foreign trade.

Britain is one of the most important economic partners of Uzbekistan in Europe. There are 419 companies operating in Uzbekistan with the participation of British capital and representations of 95 companies are accredited.

Westminster International University in Tashkent plays an important role in strengthening the human resource capacity of Uzbekistan. High Technology Centre is being created in Tashkent with the support of the University of Cambridge.
