Azerbaijan will increase its imports of breeding stock, Minister of Agriculture Ismet Abbasov told reporters on Thursday.

"Today, about 5000 head of breeding cattle is imported into Azerbaijan. Its population in the country exceeds 7300. It is planned to import another 1000-1200," Abbasov said.

He noted that these animals require special care.

"A few heads died due to improper care and lack of suitable conditions during the first years of the programme on importing breeding stock. Today however, such animals are given only to farms with all the necessary facilities to care of them," Abbasov said.

He added that the country has a high demand for breeding stock.

"We are importing cattle on the basis of orders from livestock farms established under the projects implemented jointly with the Ministry of Economic Development," Abbasov said.
