The Azerbaijani transport sector transported 174.2 million tons of cargo in January-October, which is 3.3 percent more than the same period in 2011, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee told Trend today.
Some 74.1 percent of the goods from the total volume, transported during this period, fell to the private sector. Some 55.8 percent of goods were transported by vehicles, 27.4 percent - pipelines, 10.9 percent - railway and 5.9 percent - by ships.
Over 1.3 billion people were transported by passenger vehicles in January-October, which is 8.5 percent more than in 2011. Most passengers were transported by vehicles (87.7 percent) and metro (12.1 percent).
Some 19 million tons of cargo was transported by rail in January - October, which is 4.6 percent more than in 2011.
Some 10.3 million tons of cargo was transported by ships in January-October, which is 0.4 percent more than in January-October 2011. The entire volume of transported cargo fell to international operations. The volume of cargo handled at Azerbaijani ports in January-October amounted to 9.9 million tons, which is 0.3 percent more than in January-October last year.
Some 97.1 million tons of cargo was transported by vehicles, which is 7.7 percent more than in January-October 2011. The volume of passenger traffic totaled 1.2 billion people (increase by 8.8 percent). Some 96.3 percent of passengers were transported by buses and 3.7 percent - by cars.
Some 159.4 million people were transported by the subway, increasing by 6.8 percent.
Some 1.4 million passengers were transported by aircrafts, which is 14.8 percent more than the same period in 2011. Some 1.5 percent of traffic by this kind of transport fell to private sector.
Some 42.2 million tons of cargo were transported through the Eurasian transport corridor at the territory of Azerbaijan in January-September 2012, which is 5.4 percent more than in 2011. Some 194.9 million people were transported through the corridor during this period, which is 8.1 percent more than in January-September 2011.
