Iran produced over 189 million square meters of tiles and ceramics in the first eight months of the current Iranian calendar year which began on March 20 and is a 6.2 per cent rise compared to the same period last year, IRNA quoted Mohammad Fatemian, an official with the ministry of industry as saying.
Output hit 25.9 million square metres in the eighth month of Aban (Oct. 22-Nv.20), he added. Last year it stood at 24 million square metres, he noted.
Head of the Union of Tile Producers and Sellers, Mostafa Goudarzi, has said that 80 per cent of Iran's tiles and ceramics production are exported to Iraq.
He referred to Afghanistan and Uzbekistan as other destinations for Iranian-made products.
He added that some $270 million worth of tiles was exported last year.
