Turkey to start implementing 102 transportation projects in 2013

Turkey will start implementing 102 new projects in the field of transport and communications in 2013, Turkish Minister of Transport, Shipping and Communications Binali Yildirim was quoted on Wednesday by Hurriyet newspaper as saying.

Turkey will start implementing 102 new projects in the field of transport and communications in 2013, Turkish Minister of Transport, Shipping and Communications Binali Yildirim was quoted on Wednesday by Hurriyet newspaper as saying.

He added that some 434 transport projects will be continued to be implemented in 2013, of which 111 will be completed this year.

In particular, Yildirim said that Turkey will start constructing new ports, roads and airports in 2013. The country intends to begin constructing the third airport in Istanbul during the first months.

Earlier, the Air Transport Department under the Turkish Ministry of Transport, Shipping and Communications told Trend that the construction of the third airport in Istanbul will cost ten billion lira.

The ministry also stressed that at the first stage, the airport will have the capacity to serve 90 million people a year. Later, this figure will be increased to 150 million people.

It was earlier reported that the third airport with the area of 750,000 square meters, will be located in the European part of Istanbul, in the north of the city close to the sea.
