Iran has provided 5 million liters of fuel per day to ships sailing in regional seas since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2012), the Mehr News Agency quoted National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company managing director Mostafa Kashkouli as saying.

He also said that over 16.6 million liters of furnace oil have been exported since the beginning of the year to different countries.

"About two million liters of diesel fuel have also been exported," he noted.

In February 2012, Iran said it has earned up to $1.1 billion through bunkering ships sailing in the Persian Gulf.

In May 2012, Iran said it will establish a dock exclusive for bunkering at the Kharg Island, located in the Persian Gulf, by March 2016.

Iran holds some 25 percent share of bunkering in the region, the Ports and Maritime Organization's managing director said on May 13, 2012, adding the figure should be increased to 50 percent.

For the time being, the country's ports have the capacity of 2.5 million tons bunkering, Ataollah Sadr said, the Mehr News Agency reported.
