Kazakhstan, Russia sign railway memorandum

Kazakh Kaztemirtrans JSC and the Russian Federal Freight Company OJSC have signed a memorandum of cooperation, according to which an agreement was reached on the joint use of freight rolling stock, Kaztemirtrans JSC's press-service said.

"A memorandum was signed on cooperation between Қaztemirtrans JSC and Federal Freight Company OJSC during the visit of the Federal Freight Company management to Kazakhstan." According to the document, the parties reached an agreement on the effective use of freight rolling stock in Russia and Kazakhstan, holding mutual consultations on information exchange during operation of freight carriages, cooperation for organization of current repair work in the two countries," the statement said.

As noted by the company, the document was inked by the president of Қaztemirtrans JSC Kanat Almagambetov and CEO of Federal Freight Company Vitaly Yevdokimenko.

"Today, Russian operators are active in the Kazakh market, including the Federal Freight Company whose rolling stock has about 170,000 carriages. However, growing competition requires the development of more effective measures to facilitate the implementation of joint long-term projects," Vitaly Yevdokimenko said at the memorandum signing ceremony.

According to the parties, the signing of a memorandum takes companies to a higher level of close cooperation and will contribute to the preservation of technological unity and competitiveness of the two countries' rail transport systems, and will give an impetus for closer cooperation in the framework of a common economic space.

Қaztemirtrans JSC is a leading operator of Kazakhstan's freight car fleet.

The company operates freight cars, carries out the repair and modernization of cars at the company's own car repair depot and provides freight forwarding services.
