Turkey's foreign trade deficit decreases by 12 per cent per year

Turkey's foreign trade deficit decreased by 11.6 per cent reaching $7.2 billion in December 2012 compared to the same month of 2011, the Turkish Statistics Institute said today.

Turkey's exports rose by 1.4 per cent and hit $12.6 billion during this period. Imports to Turkey decreased by 3.7 per cent to $19.8 billion during a year.

Imports from EU countries to Turkey amounted to 39.2 per cent of the total import in December 2012 compared to 41.7 per cent in December 2011. Turkey's exports to the EU during the year decreased by 4.8 per cent to reach $4.9 billion.

Turkey's largest exports fell to Iraq in December.

Turkey exported goods worth $1 billion to Iraq or by 10.6 per cent more than the previous year with Germany $989 million and UAE $694 million.

The largest imports to Turkey fell to Russia - $2.4 billion or 2.9 per cent less than in the same month of 2011, Germany $2.1 billion and China $1.7 billion.
