Azerbaijan has a very important geo-strategic role in the region, including because of energy resources, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said addressing Munich Security Conference on Saturday, the Conference's website reported.
"Azerbaijan is ready to supply its gas to European countries via gas pipelines such as Nabucco West and Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline, after implementation of which great amounts of gas will be supplied to Europe ," he said.
Nabucco-West envisages the construction of 1,300 km of pipeline (Bulgaria: 412 km, Romania 469 km, Hungary 384 km, Austria 47 km). from the Turkish-Bulgarian border to the Austrian Baumgarten. Gas to be produced during the second stage of Shah Deniz field development is considered as the main source for the project.
The shareholders are the Austrian OMV, Hungarian FGSZ, Bulgarian Bulgargaz, Romanian Transgaz, Turkish Botas and German RWE.
According to Mammadyarov, today, these projects are very important, as this will ensure the energy security of Europe.
However, Azerbaijan's priority is the development of not only oil infrastructure projects, Mammadyarov said. He said over the 20 years of independence, billions of dollars have been invested in the non-oil sector of the economy.
According to Mammadyarov, the construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, which will link several countries in the region in 2014 is important project.
Azerbaijan will launch the first satellite within Arianespace program, which is also important achievement of the country.
"We also develop the agro-industrial sector. All these achievements make Azerbaijan an important country in the region," Mammadyarov said
