Kazakhstan, Astana, 12 Feb. / Trend, D. Mukhtarov /
Currently, commodity turnover between Iran and Kazakhstan amounts to $ 1.2 billion, but in the coming years, this figure may be increased to $ 5-10 billion, Iranian ambassador in Astana Gorban Seyfi told Trend.
"Our trade turnover may increase by five times in the coming years," he said.
According to Seyfi, Iran and Kazakhstan will discuss cooperation within the 13th bilateral intergovernmental commission meeting this autumn in Tehran.
"It will discuss new opportunities for cooperation in the light of the commissioning of a new Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway," he said.
According to him, the project will be completed within several months.
According to Seyfi, there is a great potential for growth in turnover in the food industry, the transport sector, and the development of transit transport.
According to him, Kazakhstan's main exports to Iran are grain and steel. Iran exports food products such as fruits, flowers, herbs and vegetables to Kazakhstan.
"We may jointly invest in vegetable stores. There are already granaries in Amirabad and Enzheburun on the border between Iran and Turkmenistan, located on the new railway's path. This will contribute to the increase in turnover," he said.
Iran also exports construction materials to Kazakhstan, such as ceramics, tiles, plastics, and petrochemicals.
According to the ambassador, Iranian companies are active in Kazakhstan, particularly, in the field of engineering, construction, road sector, copper tube plant in Karaganda, agriculture and poultry farming. The parties also operate joint telecommunications projects.
