Turkmenistan's GDP increases by 9.2 per cent in 2013

A growth in the gross domestic product (GDP) of Turkmenistan over the past two months in 2013 reached 9.2 per cent, the country’s Finance Ministry said.

A growth in the gross domestic product (GDP) of Turkmenistan over the past two months in 2013 reached 9.2 per cent, the country's Finance Ministry said.

According to the report, industry is rapidly developing in Turkmenistan. During the reporting period, it grew by 6.9 per cent. In the construction sector this figure is ensured at 17.7 per cent and in the transport and communications at 14.2 per cent.

Foreign trade turnover during the period grew by 11.4 per cent.

Turkmenistan occupies a key position in the region on natural gas supplies and its importers are Russia, China and Iran. At the same time, the country's leadership set out a policy of diversification for the economy and in recent years, oil and gas processing, the textile industry, cotton processing industry and production of building materials is developing.
