The Azerbaijan Finance Ministry and the Compulsory Insurance Bureau have completed the initial preparation work to join the Green Card international civil liability insurance system, Executive Director of the Compulsory Insurance Bureau Elhan Guliyev said in an interview with Taxes newspaper (the Azerbaijani Taxes Ministry's newspaper) today.
"We have done much for the last year," he said. "We have thoroughly examined the features of the system, the principles of its work and requirements for joining the system."
He added that the bureau's council (the International Association of National Motor Bureau) is an organization governing the system. It gave a preliminary positive conclusion for Azerbaijan's joining the system.
"A meeting of the Steering Committee of the bureau's council will be held in the near future," he said. "A final decision on the issue will be made."
"After performing all necessary operations, Azerbaijan will be able to join the system within two years - in 2014-2015," Guliyev said earlier.
The international motor civil liability insurance system "Green Card System" has been functioning since 1951. The main objective is to resolve the claims of those affected by the accident, committed with the participation of foreign motorists in accordance with national
legislation of the country where the accident occurred.
According to the agreement, the motor third-party liability insurance, issued to any country-member of the agreement is valid on the territory of another country that is a member of this agreement.
National Bureau of "Green Card" is included in a single organization -
the Council of the Bureau, with headquarters in Brussels. The Green Card System is available in 46 countries: Russia, all European countries, Israel, Morocco, Tunisia and Iran.
