Baku seaport reduces cargo transportation

In January-February 2013, Baku International Sea port transshipped 1.05 million tons of various types of cargo, which is 4 percent less than in the same period of 2012, a source at the port told Trend today.

The port transported 6.37 million tons of different goods in 2012 compared to 6.7 million tons in 2011.

According to the source, 700,000 tons of goods of the total volume of cargo transshipped in January-February fell to ferry traffic which is 6 percent more than in January-February last year.

Of the total amount of cargo transshipped in 2012, 3.79 million tons fell under ferry traffic, which was similar to 2011.

In January-February, the dry cargo terminal of the port transshipped 160,000 tons of cargo, which is 30 percent less than in January-February 2012, the source said.

In 2012, the dry cargo terminal of the port handled 1.17 million tons of cargo, which is four percent more than in 2011.

The source said that in January-February, the port handled 790 containers, which is 8 percent more than the same period of last year.

In total, the port transshipped 8,490 containers last year against 9,230 units in 2011.
