Infrastructure development costing $1bn built in Turkmenistan in first quarter of 2013

Seventy-nine major developments at a cost of about $1 billion were launched in Turkmenistan in the first quarter of 2013, the Ministry of Economy and Development of the country reported.

According to the report, they include two road bridges across the Amu Darya, a cement plant with a capacity of one million tons per year, more than 150,000 square metres of housing including luxury homes, 10 comprehensive secondary and athletic schools, 11 kindergartens and other social facilities.

At present, about 2000 major projects at a cost of about $40 billion are being constructed in the country, including the North-South railroad; new oil and gas fields are being developed and pipelines are being built.

Within the scope of the programmes adopted in Turkmenistan, the country's education and science system continues to be reformed, the production area continues to be modernised and a market economy is being formed.
