Turkey increases steel exports by almost 8 percent

In the first quarter of 2013, Turkey's steel exports increased by 7.7 percent compared to the same period in 2012, amounting to 5.24 million tons, a report of the Turkish Association of Exporters posted on its website on Thursday says.

According to the report, steel production during the period fell by 6 per cent compared to the first quarter of 2012, amounting to 8.4 million tons.

During January-March, Turkey's major steel exports accounted for Iraq - 540,000 tons, USA - 426, 000 tons and the UAE - 292,000 tons.

According to the report, the Association plans to increase steel exports up to 22.5 million tons in 2013 compared to 20.7 million tons last year. In 2013, Turkey plans to receive revenues in the amount of $18.5 billion from steel exports.

Turkey plans to produce 34 million tons of steel compared to 35.9 million tons in 2012.
