2.23 trillion tons of goods transited trough Iran

Over 2.234 million tons of goods were transited through Iran in the first two months of the current Iranian calendar year (which started on March 21), the Mehr News Agency quoted Iranian Deputy Roads and Urban Development Minister Shahriyar Afandizadeh as saying.

The amount shows a 11 per cent increase compared to the same period of time last year.

About 2.11 million tons of goods equal to 94 per cent were transited by road and 123,000 tons equal to 6 per cent by rail, showing a 5.3 percent rise year on year.

The transited consignments mostly consisted of fuel, construction materials, cotton, home appliances, vehicles, foodstuff and fertilizers, the official noted.

According to Afandizadeh, over 11.6 million tons of goods were transited through Iran in the past Iranian calendar year (ended on March 20). The figure showed a 14.7 percent rise year on year, he added.

About 10.7 million tons of goods were transited by road and 862,800 tons by rail, showing respectively a 16.3 percent rise and a 2.5 percent fall year on year.

Afandizadeh said 106 countries transited their goods via Iran. Iraq, China, the UAE, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan transited the highest amounts of goods, he noted.
