Azerbaijan's economy is undergoing a transformation and Turkey's experience can be useful in these processes, Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Alper Coshkun said at the international conference 'Role of entrepreneurship in social and economic development: Turkish-Azerbaijani experience' in Baku today.

"Despite the difficult economic situation in the countries' trading partners, Turkey's foreign trade has recently demonstrated dynamic growth," the ambassador said. "For example, Turkey's exports of services increased to $200 billion in 2012. Turkey's and Azerbaijan's economy have been recently developing despite the global economic crisis."

According to the Turkish side's estimation, investments in Azerbaijan make up $6.5 billion, while Azerbaijani investments in the Turkish economy stand at $4 billion. However, there are ambitious goals to increase these figures.

"The most important thing in this process is political will," he said. "Relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey are built on mutual trust."

Head of the office of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Economic Development Samir Veliyev said that entrepreneurship development is a priority for Azerbaijan's social and economic policy.

"Our goal is to accelerate the development of the non-oil sector and increase the role of entrepreneurship in the process," Veliyev said.

President of the Azerbaijani National Confederation of Entrepreneurs' (Employers') Mammad Musayev said that more than 1000 Azerbaijani companies are working in Turkey which is not a limit.

Bilateral meetings of a Turkish delegation headed by Ozyegin University Rector Erhan Erkut were held within the conference. Views on strengthening cooperation in the field of entrepreneurship were exchanged.
