Azerbaijani banks direct 10 per cent of loans towards regional development

Loans given to the population in the Azerbaijani regions hit 1.293.4 billion manat as of January-April 2013 or 9.56 per cent of the total volume of the loan portfolio of the banks, the Azerbaijani Central Bank's statistics report (CBA) said on Monday.

According to the CBA, the figure was equivalent to 12.228.63 billion manat in Baku, where 8.181 million manat falls to loans in the national currency. The average interest rate on loans in the country as of May 1, 2013 was 14.4 per cent, while it was 14 per cent in Baku.

The amount of crediting was equivalent to 307.4 million manat (average interest rate of 16.9 per cent) in the Absheron economic region, 419.38 million manat (18.1 per cent) in the Aran region, 51.41 million manat (20.4 per cent) in the Mountain Shirvan region, 152.77 million manat (18.6 per cent) in the Ganja-Gazakh region, 50.07 million manat (19 per cent) in the Guba-Khachmaz region, 125.42 million manat (21.5 per cent) in the Lenkoran region, 63.7 million manat (21.2 per cent) in the Sheki-Zagatala region, 28.22 million manat (13.6 per cent) in the Upper Karabakh region, 10.2 million manat (21.3 per cent) in the Kalbajar-Lachin region and 84.87 million manat (10.8 per cent) in the Nakhchivan region.

Around 43 banks operate in Azerbaijan.

The official exchange rate is 0, 7846 AZN/USD on June 4.
