The range of products manufactured using domestic polypropylene at the oil refinery in Turkmenbashi, will be expanded through the construction of polypropylene film production facilities, the newspaper Neutral Turkmenistan reports.
For this purpose, a decree 'On completion of a plant on the production of polypropylene tape' was signed by the Turkmen president. The production which has a capacity of 21,000 tons is led by Indonesian PT Istana Karang Laut. The cost of the contract is 31.7 million euros.
After putting the facility into operation, production of polypropylene tape that can be used for packaging of tobacco products, food products and textile products will begin.
The newspaper reports that during a large scale modernisation of the refinery, a factory on the production of polypropylene which is a high quality chemical raw material was built alongside facilities that produce high-octane gasoline, clean diesel fuel, basic commodities and lubricating oils.
The facility that was built by the Japanese JGC firm operates on the basis of Basell (Italy) technology. The raw material for the facility is the liquefied gas that is produced at the concomitant facilities of the plant.
Polypropylene that is produced by the Turkmen refinery is known as 'Turkmenplen' and is purchased by Japan, Russia, Turkey, Iran and China. In 2012, the total exports of polypropylene at the refinery were more than $30 million.
Currently, the complex produces three types of polypropylene (TPP D 30S, TPP F 79 FB, TPP D 382 BF), directed towards the production of sheet thermoplastics, plastic tapes and fibres for the production of polymeric fabrics.
Polypropylene is required in the automotive construction, light industry, production of containers, polypropylene fibres and fibre materials.
The refineries in Turkmenistan have the task to increase the production of polypropylene and bringing the capacity from 90,000 to 250,000 tons per year through the implementation of deep processing of heavy oil residues.
