The famous "Maiden Tower" ("Kiz Kulesi"), one of Istanbul's most recognizable tourists spots, was put up for sale, Sabah newspaper said on Thursday.
According to Hamoglu Holding, which leased the tower for 49 years, "Maiden Tower" is being sold for 22 million euros. The tower is 2,500 years old.
Previously, one Arab company showed interest in "Maiden Tower", but the parties failed to come to an agreement as the company intended to turn the tower into an office, which is unacceptable under Turkish law.
"Maiden Tower" is located on the Asian side of Istanbul on a small island in the Bosporus, Uskudar district. The tower is a symbol of the city.
