The first consignment of food, valued at 20 billion rials (some $8 million) was imported into Iran via Astara customs, the Fars News Agency reported.
The customs will expand operations for importing goods, Jahangir Bakhshi, the director of Astara customs administration stated.
He also said that nine consignments of goods, worth 30 billion rials, were exported via the customs to Russia and Azerbaijan.
Revenues of the customs grew by 339 percent in the first four months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-July 22) year on year, he noted.
Iran and Azerbaijan mostly do suitcase trade, and according to Bakhshi, most of the goods were exported by travelers to Azerbaijan.
