Iran will import Russia-made cars including Lada Kalina and Lada Granta models, Iranian Jahanesanat newspaper reported.
Iran has ordered these two models to be adjusted according to country's climate condition, Mohammad Bayat, board member of the Rahbar Company which is representative of the Russian Avtovaz Company in Iran, said.
Bayat went on to note that soon after approval of the Iran's Institute of Standard and Industrial Research and obtaining necessary licenses, the cars will be released in Iran.
According to the statistics of the Iran's customs administration, Iran has imported some 16,959 cars during the first five months of the current solar year (started on March 21) which indicates an increase by 8.1 percent compared to the same period last solar year.
According to the statistics, the value of imported motor cars during the period reached some $351.400 million which indicates an increase of three percent compared the five-month period in the last solar year.
In January, Iran's Ministry of Industry, Mine, and Trade banned importing cars with engines up to a 2500 cc capacity. That ban was lifted for a short period at the end of the last solar year.
On May 7, the Trade Promotion Organisation of Iran announced a list of cars which are allowed to be imported in the current solar year.
Some 25 car brands have been included in the list, such as South Korean Kia and Hyundai, Chinese brand (SAIC motor), Italian brands (Fiat and Alpha Romeo), Japanese brands (Honda and Mitsubishi), German brand (ABT), and Swedish brand (Volvo).
Iran imported 44,341 cars worth over 1.084 billion dollars in the previous solar year. The amount shows a 30.59 percent and 11.3 percent increase in terms of value and number respectively compared to the preceding year.
