Yesterday the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) presented to Azerbaijani government the final version of the new strategy for operations in the country, the head of the EBRD Baku office Neil McKain told Trend on Thursday.

According to him, the bank plans to receive comments from the government in six weeks.

"We are waiting for the government's stance, then we will post the project on the website of the bank to get the reviews of non-governmental organizations and the public. Board of directors should approve the strategy in January 2014," McKain said.

According to him, the strategy is designed for three years and covers the period from 2014 to 2017.

"The new strategy is not much different from the current. We fully support the policy of diversification of the economy. This process goes on, and we want to strengthen it. In this process, a lot depends on the competitiveness of companies, so we are looking at ways to improve the situation, to expand the list of local products. Secondly, the goal is the expansion of access to finance. We try to improve the situation for small and medium businesses, as well as for large enterprises," McKain said.
