The latest statistics released by the Iran Furniture Manufactures & Exporters Union showed the country's furniture exports reached $20 million dollars in the first six months of the current Iranian calendar year which started March 21.

Iran's exports in the first half of the year were six times more than the same period of the previous year, the Ghatreh News Website reported.

The report says the country's total furniture exports in the previous year were around $8 million dollars.

Iran Furniture Manufactures & Exporters Union also predicted that Iran's total furniture exports will hit $50 million by the end of the current calendar year (March 20, 2014).

The former director of the Trade Promotion Organisation of Iran Hamid Safdel said on October 7 that Iraq, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Azerbaijan are the main destinations for Iranian furniture, the Mehr News Agency reported.

He said however that Iran's furniture exports in the previous calendar year stood at $30 million dollars which is in contradiction with the Iran Furniture Manufactures & Exporters Union's report.

Safdel went on to note that the world's furniture trade in 2012 was around $146 billion dollars.
