Azerbaijan proposes Netherlands to sign agreement in phytosanitary and veterinary spheres

Azerbaijan's Minister of Agriculture Heydar Asadov met with the Dutch Senator Rene van der Linden on Friday.

The main purpose of the meeting was the discussion of cooperation between the two countries in the agrarian sphere, the ministry's press-service told Trend. The Dutch Ambassador to Azerbaijan Robert Jan Gabrielsen participated at the meeting.

The minister talked about the relations between Azerbaijan and the Netherlands in the agrarian sphere. He also emphasized the significance of projects, trainings and seminars held by the Dutch government, and their role in Azerbaijan's agrarian policy.

Asadov marked the main obstacles faced by the local entrepreneurs in product export to the Netherlands and stressed the necessity of signing legal documents on phytosanitary and veterinary by the relevant state structures in order to facilitate the trade of agrarian products between the countries.

The minister also proposed the Netherlands as one of the leading member states of the European Union to share its experience and experts in the agrarian sphere, strengthen cooperation between the relevant scientific and research and higher education institutions.

Rene van der Linden stressed during the meeting that he was proposed to meet with the Minister of Agriculture by the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during the meeting within the Baku International Humanitarian Forum.

Linden highly appreciated the cooperation between the two countries in the agrarian sphere and stressed that the Netherlands has great experience in this sphere and is one of the leading states in the sphere of agriculture. He also put forward a number of proposals on cooperation with Azerbaijan in the agrarian sphere.

The preparations for visit of the Dutch delegation on agriculture and fishery in April 2014 were also discussed at the meeting. This delegation will be headed by Linden.
