"The Turkmen President and Prime Minister of Belarus paid special attention to the joint construction project of the Garlyk Mining and Processing Plant for the production of potash fertilizers in Koytendag etrap (district) of Lebap velayat (region), where there are rich deposits of potassium salts," the message said.

According to the message, this subject was discussed at a bilateral summit, held in Ashgabat on November 5, 2013. The summit emphasized the importance of this project - the flagship of the Turkmen-Belarusian partnership in the economic sphere.

In early 2010, Turkmenhimiya State Corporation signed a contract with the JSC Belgorkhimprom (Republic of Belarus), which provides for the construction and commissioning of the plant in early 2015.

According to the Turkmen information, it is envisaged to construct the plant in two stages; the cost of the complex' first phase will be over $1 billion. The enterprise will operate on the basis of Garlyk potash field, which is able to ensure the production of one to 1.5 million tons of fertilizers per year with the prospect of enlargement.
