Kazakhstan intends to implement new technologies in the repair and construction of motor roads, Kazakh Minister of Transport and Communications, Askar Zhumagaliyev told journalists.

The minister made the remarks during a working trip to the country's three southern oblasts (South Kazakhstan, Zhambyl and Almaty) to inspect the construction of the Western Europe-Western China International Transit Corridor.

"It is necessary to use different pavements in construction of the Western Europe-Western China corridor. We must understand that there are different temperatures in the north, west, south and east of Kazakhstan. This must be taken into account in the construction of the road. The road pavement must satisfy temperature requirements of each region," the minister said.

The minister added that pavement should be approved prior to construction. He also noted the importance of using new technologies in the construction of roads, which will save funds. The minister said that, at the same time, the quality of road pavement should remain unaffected.

Apart from the construction of the Western Europe-Western China corridor, the minister inspected the oblast's other national roads, which are in poor condition. In particular, the Merke-Shu-Burylbaytal section, built in the 80s of the last century, has not been overhauled since that time.

"It was decided to start repair works on this motor road next year using cold recycling technology. This technology allows the reuse of road pavement, and the addition of new materials. Construction on many sections of road in these oblasts of Kazakhstan will begin next year. It is necessary to finish the design and expert works on the Kurty-Burylbaytal section by July 2014. There, we suppose using warm asphalt concrete, which will reduce the cost of construction by five per cent," the minister said.

The total length of the Western Europe-Western China International Transit Corridor on the territory of Kazakhstan is 2,787 kilometres, some 2,452 kilometres of which are subject to reconstruction. Works on the reconstruction of the Kazakh section of the corridor were launched in 2009.
