Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec.11

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: The Iranian administration will focus on boosting production in the next 100 days, IRIB quoted Iranian economy minister Ali Tayyebnia as saying on Dec. 11.

If all the fiscal and monetary policies are implemented efficiently, domestic production will flourish, he added.

He put priority on facilitating imports and exports and releasing raw materials for the production sector.

Fortunately, the inflation rate has been reduced, Tayyebnia said, adding that all branches of the ministry have been mobilized to improve the business environment in the country.

On Dec. 4, the Iranian Economy Ministry issued a report mentioning different indices of the national economy during the first 100 days of the current president Hassan Rouhani.

The report also provides details about the national economy before the administration of president Rouhani took office in August.

According to the report, the national economy contracted 5.8 percent in the past Iranian calendar year 1391 (ended on March 20, 2013).

The country business freedom index was 168 in the world. The inflation rate was 40 percent, and the number of unemployed was 5.3 million.

The administration's debt to the banking system surged by fivefold between 2005 and 2012.

President Rouhani has said that he has taken the office with an empty treasury and a huge amount of debts.

In October, Rouhani said the previous administration's debts to the banks, private sector and contractors amount to 1800 trillion rials (some $59 billion).

In mid-September member of Iran's parliamentary Plan, Budget and Audit Commission, Ahmad Tavakkoli said that Iran's Forex Fund assets have dried up completely.

Some $161 billion of the Fund's $176 billion worth of assets have been used by state, he said.

Iran's administration owed some $112.55 billion to banks and companies at the end of the last solar year which ended on March 21, Tavakkoli said.
