At the governmental meeting in Ashgabat Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov instructed to conduct work on effective development of the chemical industry, Turkmenistan TV reported on Jan.4.

"Focusing on the fact that a huge export potential of the chemical industry is related to the production of potash, the Turkmen leader gave concrete instructions to the deputy prime minister to effectively develop this area which is strategically important for Turkmen national economy," the information said.

The chemical industry of the country is one of the fastest growing sectors of the national economy having enormous resource potential.

A key project is the construction of the largest, mining and processing complex for the production of potash in Central Asia in the Lebap district of Garlyk.

The capacity of the complex is to be 1-1.5 million tons per year. The project is being implemented by Belgorkhimprom JSC.

At this stage, Turkmenistan is working on development of a large project on establishment within the next ten years of a major gas chemical and petrochemical industries. Works on utilization of associated petroleum gas and extraction of a liquefied natural gas, synthetic fluids and electricity are of great importance as well.

Separate issue is the development of domestic gas processing industry for the production of ammonia, carbamide, carbon build-up of production of liquefied natural gas, on which there is a steadily growing demand in the world market.
